We have been contacted by the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT) in China who are interested in finding UK suppliers for their market, as there is increasing demand for horticulture related products and technologies.
The Yunnan government (a region in south west China, focusing on horticulture especially flowers) is organising the Kunming International Flower Expo in September 2024. It’s the largest annual flower-related industry show in China.
The organiser (the Department for Agriculture of Yunnan government) is keen to encourage UK companies/organisations to exhibit.

The Statistics Yearbook provides production data from countries in Europe, Asia, North America, and South America, with market data and prices and global import and export data.
AIPH quotes World Bank figures showing growth is forecast to slow to 0.4% in 2023, from 3.5% in 2022, owing mainly to the lagged effects of monetary policy.
In 2022, the UK produced €332m worth of pot plants, down from €379m in 2021.
Flowers and bulbs production was worth €192m, up from 150m in 2021. HNS was £1.269bn, down from £1.292bn in 2021.
Flowers and plants area was 7,100ha in 2022, up from 6,300ha in 2021. HNS was 5,100ha, up from 4,900ha in 2021 and protected glasshouses were 473ha, up from 450ha in 2021. UK Xmas tree production areas was 1,619ha. In comparison, Denmark was 24,298ha.
Exports were €55.9m, down from €64.5m in 2021. Imports were €1.81bn including €837m cut flowers, up from €1.46bn in 2021. There were €1.21bn imports from the Netherlands.
CVPO data shows 13,516 cultivated protected ornamental plants with 1,363 joining the list in 2022 and 831 terminated. Roses, orchids, chrysanthemums,anthurrium, calibrachoa/petunia, hydrangea, lillium, gerbera, dianthus and impatiens are most popular.
